A “Good Find”

Those from Morgantown and even those who attend WVU may or may not know about Lavender Cafe. Known or not, this is really truly a different and authentic place. One not so easy to come by in Morgantown.

Located off of Beechurst Avenue, the cafe has gained popularity since their opening in 2008 which has offered fresh Taiwanese food along with everyday dishes since the very first day.

The extensive menu for the latest drink craze, bubble tea is another thing that brings people through the door. Whether you order online or go into the restaurant to enjoy the asian inspired ambiance, you’re almost guaranteed a great experience from the high reviews online and even chatting to locals who go there regularly.

Even those who may not like Taiwanese food or think they don’t like it, Tye Nave says, “just try it, I did!” Nave, originally from Pittsburgh, PA was in town visiting a friend when his friend “dragged” him to her favorite food spot in Morgantown. Nave who says he used to typically stick to the average american food, gave it a try and after moving to, and now living in San Francisco, California, he says he wishes there was one in there too!

And let’s be honest, he’s not the only one who seems to love it, so do the locals!

  1. I’ve never personally been to the Lavender Cafe, but it seems that a lot of people do enjoy the Taiwanese food and culture that the cafe offers. That is definitely one thing I love about Morgantown. There are so many small little cultures that offer so many cool things that people may or may not know about, hence the purpose of this blog. Morgantown offers various food options for students and individuals in the area and helps to broaden their horizon. I tend to be a picky person and I’m always afraid new food, which is something that I try to work on. Lavender Cafe seems like a good place to try, and will expose individuals to a different food culture. I know bubble tea is a huge thing, not necessarily where I am from, but in other areas. I don’t know how it differs from regular tea, but after doing some research I am intrigued. I am typically not a tea person, but bubble tea is a mixture of a tea base that is mixed or shaken with fruit or milk. Bubble tea also contains chewy tapioca balls or fruit jellies at the bottom, which is also interesting. Bubble tea sounds completely different than regular tea and with the mixture with milk or fruit (preferably fruit) it sounds like something that may be enjoyable. Clearly, a lot of people do enjoy bubble tea and it’s something I may have to try! Good post Audrie!

  2. Lavender Cafe is by far my favorite place to get Taiwanese food in Morgantown! The workers are always so nice and welcoming and care about what they do. Some of the other workers at restaurants around Morgantown just take your order and serve you, but don’t take the time to be friendly and check on you. My only issue with Lavender Cafe is that it is a little pricy compared to other places.
